Covenant Graduates Are Uncommon Leaders
CCA graduates are a living legacy of Covenant’s unparalleled education. Covenant graduates pursue opportunities, take on challenges, and are prepared to lead. This is evident in Alexa Black’s pursuit of excellence since she graduated from CCA in 2018. As a senior in the Professional Selling Program at Baylor, she delivered this ProSales talk on the importance of becoming the Red Balloon.
In the presentation, Alexa explains, “The Red Balloon to me is the person who strives to go above and beyond no matter what life throws. In the midst of a challenge, we can choose to become the Red Balloon to not only overcome that challenge but to become a role model in spite of it.”

What have you been up to since graduation?
Upon graduation in the Spring of 2018, I began my journey at Baylor University, working toward my B.B.A. in Professional Selling and Management Information Systems. I am now completing my last semester at Baylor, and I will be graduating in the Spring of 2022. At Baylor, I am involved in Student Foundation, the Hankamer Student Organization, the Greek organization Delta Delta Delta as well as hold leadership within the Professional Selling Program. I have held two jobs during my time at Baylor; I serve as a Baylor Experience and Admissions Representative, where I give tours to prospective students, and I also hold a Research Assistant position where I work closely with a professor in the Marketing department providing assistance on any research for her critical work. In my free time, I enjoy going on hikes at Cameron Park and going on adventures with my friends.
What is your favorite CCA memory?
At CCA, my favorite memory was serving on House Council; I served as the Vice-Prefect for the House, Integritas. I loved my time on House Council because I was able to help create events and opportunities for the student body. Throughout my time on House Council, I was also able to grow closer with the faculty and teachers. The relationships that I made with my peers and the teachers/faculty are the reason that I have such sweet memories looking back at my time at CCA.
What is the most important thing you learned at CCA?
The most important thing I learned at CCA was the importance of work ethic. I learned how to be a good student, so much so that when I came to college, I was already prepped for the vigorous workload. I quickly realized that all the books that we read in high school, assignments that we completed, and essays that we wrote all have a greater purpose than we could ever fathom. But not only did CCA have an impact on me academically but also spiritually. I grew in my faith during my time at CCA and the CCA teacher’s intentionality was a great reason for that growth.
What’s the accomplishment you’re most proud of?
I am most proud of my time during my sales internship at Schneider Electric last summer. I grew personally and professionally. I had the opportunity to attend many conferences and network with potential clients, ultimately leading me to grow the pipeline at Schneider and create a new client. Last summer, not only was I able to accomplish something that no other intern had before but I was also able to have my “ah-ha” moment. The moment where I found what I wanted to do for my career – growing relationships with others and creating value for school districts that will allow them to achieve their dream of an efficient and sustainable learning environment.
What is your favorite CCA tradition?
My favorite CCA tradition is when as a class we would go on a “trip” before school began and experience events and bonding activities. It was a refreshing and fun way to start the school year.
What is your definition of success?
Success to me is finding your passion and fighting for it. I live by this quote by John Eldredge “When deciding what to do with your life – don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive. Because what the world needs are men and women who have come alive.” So, I challenge everyone to find what makes them come alive and use that passion to further the kingdom of God.
Thank you Alexa for living an uncommon life and pursuing challenges that make you come alive. We are proud of the red balloon you have become.
