CCA Student Spotlight: Grace Hurlburt

What truly sets CCA Senior Grace apart is her character. She is eager to learn, has a strong work ethic, and embodies a Christlike character, demonstrating a caring heart to those around her.

Grace is incredibly grateful for the CCA community and feels blessed to have built meaningful connections with her classmates, including those in different grade levels. She deeply treasures the CCA teachers, who not only care for each student but also intentionally foster personal relationships while encouraging them to grow in Christ-like character.

I am thankful to have taught Grace for many years and in different seasons of her life.  Through them all she has always been an eager learner with deep curiosity.  You can instantly witness when she is thinking of something to ask and as a teacher I love it!  I also love her genuine character.  Grace is Grace.  She doesn’t stray from that.  She is loved and admired by many because of her caring and encouraging spirit.  She truly is a joy!

Grace exemplifies the qualities of a well-rounded, classically educated student. She has formed meaningful relationships with both her peers and teachers while actively participating in multiple sports.

One of her favorite books from her time at CCA is The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. She holds many of its ideas close to heart, particularly the profound question: Why do bad things happen to good people?

For her senior thesis, Grace explored the neuroscience of physical intimacy and its effects on the brain and emotions. She believes that education in neuroscience and neuropsychology can play a vital role in improving mental health.

In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits, Grace participated in yearbook, art, and worship ensemble. She participated in student government as the Vice Prefect of Intergritas and as the House Council Publicity Chair. She has also demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by launching her own business, Gracing Boards.

I love anything to do with good food, especially when I can bring in my creative and artistic skills along with it. My business is a self-ran charcuterie and grazing board service. Entrepreneurship, even on a smaller scale, has taught me how to manage communication with customers, advertising, and processing pricing and economics.

CCA education has helped me communicate well, but honestly the most I’ve gotten from CCA in relation to my business is the connections and support. Lovely families have reached out and used me, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the support!

Grace cares deeply for her friends and family. She said, ” The people I love are constant reminders of God’s love and care for me, which is always an instant boost of joy in my day.”

When Grace was preparing for her sophomore year of high school, her family moved to San Antonio. Leaving behind the place and people she knew so well was incredibly difficult, and she experienced a season of loneliness. However, this challenge became an opportunity for her to lean fully into God. Through it all, she grew in her faith and gained a deeper understanding of both herself and God—an experience for which she is truly grateful.

Grace loves Jesus. When asked about her faith, she said, “Jesus is one of my best friends. We all look for loyalty and love in our closest relationships, and Jesus has proven to embody those attributes towards me without fail. He has been my refuge and rock in some really hard places, and anytime I come to Him, I immediately feel peace.”

What makes Grace unique is her depth. She possesses a wisdom and strength that exceeds her years. She is aptly named because when under pressure, she responds with grace and confidence. She is academic, athletic, artistic, and creative and she has been able to grow these gifts in her time at CCA. She is well prepared for the path ahead and she will continue to be a light to those God places in her life.

Grace will be attending Texas A&M next year and plans to study neuroscience. Her dream is to be successful in college so she can one day do the Lord’s work by helping others have good and healthy lives.

Grace, CCA is a better place because you were here. We are proud of you and can’t wait to see how God uses you to help others.
