CCA is Alive with The Sound of Music

As we bring The Sound of Music to life on stage, we invite you to experience not just the beauty of its songs, but the deep, emotional journey it represents. At its core, this musical is about love in all its forms: love for family, love for country, and the love that gives us the strength to stand up against the forces of oppression and hate. The von Trapp family’s journey is one of overcoming adversity, of choosing to do what is right, even when it’s difficult or dangerous. It is a story of resilience, faith, and courage, of finding your way when the world around you seems to be falling apart.
As we explore the events of this story, we must also confront the harsh reality of the time in which it is set. Some productions have made the decision to exclude the Nazi symbol from their staging, but for us, it is crucial that we do not shy away from recognizing the evil that was the Nazi regime. The symbol of the swastika is not just a historical artifact; it is a representation of the immense harm and suffering caused by hate and intolerance. We choose to include it because it is vital that we call evil by its name. By acknowledging it, we arm ourselves with the knowledge to never let such darkness rise again.

Our production does not aim to glorify this symbol, but rather to stand in opposition to it, showing the strength of the human spirit when faced with tyranny. We do not hide from history, but face it head-on in the hope that we, like the von Trapps, will choose to stand for what is good, just, and right. We hope that as you watch this story unfold, you will be inspired to carry its message forward into your own life – embracing love, choosing kindness, and standing strong in the face of adversity.

The von Trapp Family requests your participation to sing with them in solidarity against the Third Reich. During the Festival at the end of Act 2, when prompted by the Captain, join in:
Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever
