MEET THE COACH
Vernon Wells
Vernon Wells has coached for 11 years at CCA, including six seasons as a varsity football coach. His job as Associate Head Coach translated into four final fours and two state championship titles in TAPPS Division 3 in only six years.
Coach Wells and his family have been a part of the history and fabric of Covenant Christian Academy for the past 17 years, and their love, dedication, and sacrifice are evident all across the campus. In addition to coaching varsity football, Vernon coached junior high football, basketball, and baseball, and continues to coach varsity baseball. He and his wife also served as capital campaign chairs in 2013. Vernon’s son, Jayce graduated in 2021 and his son, Christian graduated in 2023.
Although Vernon chose baseball as his profession, his true love has always been football. He signed with the University of Texas to play both football and baseball in college before being drafted in the first round to the Toronto Blue Jays.
A Note from Coach Wells – “It is an honor to have the opportunity to continue the success Coach Towe and his staff have achieved on the field. Obviously, my goal is to win another State Championship, but my purpose is to mentor and guide our student-athletes, and hold them to a standard of excellence that honors our Lord. I look forward to continuing my relationships with our athletes and our families, and I am committed to fostering community through our football program. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next Head Football Coach at CCA and look forward to this journey together.”
