Trusting God to Fill in the Gaps
The planks arrived and it was a fixer-upper day! The bedroom was getting a new floor! As we installed each plank and increased every row- the excitement grew. My husband and I methodically shifted furniture onto the newly floored half of the room to finish the remaining half. Then with the click of that final plank, I could not wait to replace the furniture and step back to admire the floor’s beauty. This mood all changed when we discovered something hidden under the dresser. There, smack in the middle of the room- a gap. Somehow in the movement, a plank had come loose. My husband logically knew the necessary steps to correct it. But, not me! I tugged, pounded, and hammered with determination, yet the gap remained.
Gaps. They happen. Gaps in floors, gaps in bricks, gaps in windows. Teeth gaps, road gaps, roof gaps, and foundation gaps. They mark spots that are broken and in need of repair. Or, they reveal a missing piece. Sometimes they leave us open to feel a sense of lack or a sense of loss.
Gaps appear in everyday things, but what about the gaps which occur in the “fence”. You know, that “white picket fence” of your dreams for family, marriage, and children. Somewhere along the way, gaps happened. Divorce, illness, death of a loved one, or tragedy could be a loss you bear with a gaping grief- a gap in your life. I want you to know you are not alone.
My family experienced gaps from a broken marriage. As a single parent, I feared grave statistics for children of divorce. God then began to build His truth into my heart, so I write to encourage your rebuilding. Jesus is our Repairer of Broken Walls and the Restorer of Streets with Dwellings (Isaiah 58:12b). Allow Him to surround your life with renewed hope to replace the damaged dreams. God gives us His Word to claim as He completely fills every need. Dear one, let the grief from your life’s gaps lead you to prayer. Claim His promises and release His power to work through any brokenness you face.
God is in your GAPs. God Answers Prayers!

A~God is Able and At Work
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. Ephesians 3:16-20
P~God has a Plan
I know that You can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Do you remember how I sat fretting to fix my floor? My husband lovingly began removing the planks, row by row, until he reached the gap where I sat. Together, we began to restore the floor to its intended beauty. This is what God wants to do for you. He does not want to leave you alone- struggling with gaps- but instead wants to help. He desires to come alongside you to bring a beautiful restoration to your family and your life.
Invite Him to fill your GAPs and He will faithfully pour out His answers!
