House System

We know you want more than a great academic experience for your teen. You want them to experience the fun of high school, the guidance and support that comes from a private Christian school, and friends they can truly count on.

You want them to have a place to belong — a home away from home.

That’s why Covenant Christian Academy has a  House System for students in grades 9-12. The House System is a time-tested way to organize teens in small groups where they can get to know each other better, develop a deep sense of camaraderie, compete in games and challenges, and have more opportunities to practice their leadership skills.

The system started in the 1800s in British boarding schools. Because of its track record of success, CCA continues the tradition today.

Introducing the Four Houses of CCA:

Aequitas 
(Justice)

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

Fidelitas 
(Faithfulness)

“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24

Integritas 
(Integrity)

“He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart…He who does these things shall never be moved.” Psalm 15:2,5

Veritas
(Truth)

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

Choosing to Include Everyone

When your teen joins our high school, they are placed in a House. There are two paths for selection, or what we call sorting:

  • If an older sibling has already been part of our House System, your new student will automatically join the same House. 
  • Otherwise, when new students arrive, faculty members gather information on their attributes and interests. Then, House officers choose new members in a blind draft. 

The goal is for each House to have students with varying ages, interests, and strengths. This not only helps the House’s chance of winning school competitions, but it also introduces students who might not otherwise have had a chance to work together.

Learning to Work Together

All four Houses compete each year to win the most points, which means they earn a trophy, a half-day celebration, extra opportunities to wear their House T-shirts to school, and a full year of bragging rights.

Your teen can earn points for their House by helping a teacher without being asked, cheering on other students at school plays and events, and doing lots of other things that build character and show God’s love.  

Of course, Houses also earn points by winning competitions like painting the best mural and being the last ship floating in a game of human Battleship. While fun, these competitions require teamworkstrategy, and leadership — both on and off the field.

Leading for the Good of All

Each House has four officers, and those students meet weekly, much like a Student Council. Together, they plan community service projects, along with dances and other schoolwide events. They also influence policy changes that are important to their peers. For instance, House leaders wrote a proposal to lift a restrictive shoe policy. They gathered photos of suitable shoe options and met with the principal and headmaster, who agreed to the policy change.

While not every student serves as an officer, every student is seen and known in these smaller groups. Teachers, and other students, are able to recognize what your teen has to offer and encourage them to grow and shine.
